International Education Quality Assurance System
International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS)
1. Purpose
- Assessment to certify high level of international capacity with the aim to increase attracting outstanding international students and enhance the internationalization capabilities of domestic students.
2. Eligibility
-
Assessment is held to universities(including community colleges and graduate universities) that request to be certified.
* Among universities established under Articles 2 and 4 of the Higher Education Act and special laws, universities wishing to be certified are eligible, excluding teacher’s colleges, air colleges, correspondence colleges, cyber colleges, technical colleges and various kinds of schools.
※ Except for universities that have branch campuses (each campus submit each data- Konkuk University, Korea University, Dongguk University, Yonsei University, Hanyang University), universities must submit all data in a combined form
< Restrictions in requesting for certification >
① Universities with limited financial support from results of university’s basic competency assessment (Type II)
② Universities that have not receive assessment or have uncertified assessment results from university institutional assessment
⑤ In case the universities that have been misconducted, such as submitting false data or causing social controversy, are restricted from the application after deliberation by the International Education Quality Assurance System Committee

※ However, graduate school universities or colleges are excluded because they cannot apply for university institutional assessment.

(Language training program) 20 of international language trainees
※ Graduate school universities or colleges with fewer than 100 entrance quotas can apply if the number of international students is 10 or more.
④ Universities that restrict the recruitment of international students※ Graduate school universities or colleges with fewer than 100 entrance quotas can apply if the number of international students is 10 or more.
⑤ In case the universities that have been misconducted, such as submitting false data or causing social controversy, are restricted from the application after deliberation by the International Education Quality Assurance System Committee
3. Target for assessment
- (Degree program) Degree programs (undergraduate and graduate) of universities, junior colleges, and graduate schools universities or colleges that newly applied for certification in the current year
- (Language training program) Language training programs at universities, junior colleges, and graduate school universities or colleges that newly applied for certification in the current year
4. Assessment Indicators

Only the degree program can be applied, and the language training program can only be granted if the degree program is certified (including the universities that applies for the degree program certification).
※However, it is possible to apply for both the degree program and the language training program at the same time, but it is impossible to apply for the language training program separately.

Survey of attracting and managing international students
1. Purpose
- Continuous management of the quality of international students at universities through a survey on the actual condition of all universities attended by at least one international student in addition to universities applying for certification
2. Survey Target
- For universities, junior colleges, and graduate school universities or colleges with more than one international student enrolled, the degree program and language training program are separately screened.
* Universities established in accordance with Articles 2 and 4 of the Higher Education Act and special laws are eligible, excluding teacher’s colleges, air colleges, correspondence colleges, cyber colleges, technical colleges and various kinds of schools.

Sanctions period : 1 year
- Universities that do not meet the actual condition survey criteria are designated as reinforcement of visa screening universities, and are automatically canceled without a separate cancellation review after maintaining the sanction period (one year), and are subject to the next year's actual condition survey.
